Wotton-under-Edge

We had a mostly cloudy day today, but the sun came out for a bit in the afternoon. It was a high of 68 and a bit windy on the escarpment. I'm starting to see a pattern with the weather here. Today was our easiest day where we only walked 7.5 miles from Dursley to Wotton-under-Edge and had an elevation gain of just under 1,000 feet, which is good because tomorrow is our longest day of 13 miles.

Our B&B was in this residential neighborhood and Dursley town center is just a bit further down the hill. We start our day like any other, back up the escarpment we go.

At this point we could see a few miles of the trail ahead of us. We're going to go left along the escarpment, down that little valley, through some fields and then back up and go past that tower in the distance. It's probably about 2.5 miles to get there.

There are feathers everywhere on the trail. Not a lot in one spot, but if you keep your eye out you'll see one every ten feet or so. The English birds are very timid, much like the sheep. I imagine them all lined up, pruning themselves on the empty trails early in the morning before all us walkers have come and again in the evening after we have left. All we ever see of this imagined ritual are the feathers they leave behind.

This is our last "big" town before Bath so we have gathered some supplies for a couple lunches and a dinner the one night when we are not staying at an inn. Tomorrow is our longest day of 13 miles. The weather is looking good, we are feeling good, it's going to be another great day to hike the Cotswolds. Only 3 days left!
